There are no skyscrapers here. No rushing crowds, no subways, no concrete corners. Just
wind, water, and the pulse of bodies in motion — diving, paddling, waiting for the next wave. Just being.
Aloha is a street photography series set far from any street. Shot in black and white along the
shores of Kauai, it’s a quiet meditation on joy, community, and the way people shape — and are
shaped by — the landscapes they inhabit.
I was drawn not to spectacle, but to presence. The focused stillness of a local women’s canoe
team before they launch. Kids suspended midair just before the splash. The sun stretched long
across the water at dusk. These are fleeting moments that feel like forever — unscripted, unpolished, deeply alive.
This series isn’t about escape. It’s about belonging — about how a place can hold us, and how,
in return, we hold it back.
